Achi, whose geographical coordinates are  6° 8′ 0″ North & 7° 22′ 0″ East, is a clan, a town, that has developed into a big city.

Interestingly, it is the largest town within the Local Government Area of Oji-River, in Enugu State.

Achi is made up of twelve (12) villages (‘Isii n’ulo Isii n’agu’) namely Adu, Agbadala, Ahani, Akwu, Amaetiti, Amankpunator, Egwu, Ehuhe, Enugu Agu, Ihe, Isikwe, and Nkpokolo. Isikwe happens to be the most popular.

The phrase ‘Isii n’ulo Isii n’agu‘ as the natives say, literally means there are six (6) villages in the northern hemisphere and also six (6) villages in the southern hemisphere (if divided into two sections using imaginary lines).

Achi is bounded by different villages, which include Awgwu-nta, Awlaw, Inyi, Isiochi (Abia State) Mmaku, Udi, Ugwuoba e.t.c

There are several primary schools in Achi, with all twelve (12) villages having at least one (1). The oldest secondary educational institutions are Corpus Christi College (founded in 1960), and Girls Secondary School (founded in 1962).

Another famous, fairly old institution, is the Achi Joint Hospital, formerly known as Awgu Division in the then East Central State. For several years it was and it’s still the best.

The land and people of Achi are very hospitable, and exceptionally brilliant.

Achi predominantly is made up of sandy soil which is globally known to be infertile. However, it’s indigenes are basically known for vast crop cultivation.

It is a known fact that Cashew trees, and Melon do thrive in Achi, but yet, we can’t lay claim to be the biggest producer, or even a genuine contender of any cash crop in eastern Nigeria.

Interestingly, there is an old institution known to be called Achi Farm School (founded around 1960). The institution has for several years produced Agricultural Extension Officers who are currently scattered all over the eastern section of Nigeria.

Achi indigenes are known to be very hospitable. They are notable for the manner in which guests are been entertained.

Achi’s most popular native meals are Abacha and Okpa.

A visit they say last for a century in the minds of the visitors. Incase you visited, and failed to have a taste of these delicacies, you just have to understand this, ‘your journey wasn’t complete’.

Return back and have a taste of at least one of them, or rather both (Abacha and Okpa), and testify.

Oga-Aga-Agwu-Agwu festival is one of the most celebrated event in Achi. The festival is very famous, usually held once, within a three year interval.

It is specially and specifically organised to remind it’s natives of their massive strength when they come, reason and act together.
